Sydney Thunder’s Tanveer Sangha has advised the players competing in the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup to savour the experience.

Sangha, who has been sidelined by an injury, created history when he became the inaugural HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup player to represent Sydney Thunder in the KFC Big Bash League when he made his debut against the Melbourne Stars in 2020.

He starred in the 2017/18 Indian Community team that defeated Pakistan to win the title at Sydney Showground Stadium. Sangha, who was aged 16, sealed the Player of the Match honours by capturing 2-13 and scoring a rapid 29 from 18 deliveries.

“I’d advise the players from the Indian Community and Sri Lankan Community teams to enjoy themselves because it’s not too often you get the opportunity to play in a big stadium,” he said.

“Playing in the Thunder Nation Cup Final helped me decide that playing cricket was what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to play at stadiums like Sydney Showground Stadium; play on turf and play alongside – and against – the world’s best players.

“I wish both teams playing in the final well, and I hope it’s as memorable experience for them as it was for me.”

Sydney Thunder’s Fan and Community Impact Specialist Javid Sadrnia said spectators could expect an adrenaline-charged brand of cricket in the final which consists of eight overs in each innings.

“The players from all the teams that have played in this year’s HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup have displayed great pride and respect,” he said. “Friday night’s final at Sydney Showground Stadium will be no different.

“India is going for a three peat, and it goes without saying Sri Lanka will be determined to win the crown. It will be a tremendous contest.”

The aim of the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup is to provide individuals from all backgrounds with the opportunity to connect with their community and to celebrate their culture through Australia’s national sport, cricket.

The Final of the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup will be the curtain raiser to the Sydney Thunder first Sydney home game on Friday 16th of December at Sydney Showground Stadium.
