HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup community trials continue across February and March

Dhiraj Sharma provided a tremendous insight into the excitement all players feel when they’re selected to represent their community in the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup by describing what it meant to represent India.

“I could not sleep last night,” he enthused when quizzed about his selection. “It means a lot. I’m feeling ecstatic to represent India, and I really appreciate the opportunity provided by Sydney Thunder.

“[I’m looking forward to] making an impact and helping my team win the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup.”

Sharma was one of a record number of registrations – 92 – for the trials that were held at Blacktown International Sportspark last Sunday. With India determined to avenge last season’s defeat to Pakistan in the final, there was unmistakeable purpose and intent with each ball bowled, and each stroke of the bat.

Some of the younger players were inspired to try and emulate the efforts of Tanveer Sangha, who, in 2020-21, became the first graduate of the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup to represent Sydney Thunder and to gain selection in Australia’s national T20 squad.

The quality – and effort – displayed throughout the evening ensured selectors selected a strong squad with:

Arun Chauhan (C)

Dhruv Kant

Smit Doshi

Siddarth Peepat

Sadeep Deepak

Mandar Mariguddi

Japneet Singh

Ajay Singh

Rohith Pulla

Dhiraj Sharma

Venkatachalam Viswanathan
