10-player squad selected following competitive community trial session in Concord

A 10-player squad has been selected to represent the Pakistani community at this month’s HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup following a competitive trial session in Concord.

The squad will be looking to reclaim the title they last won in 2020, and join India as three-time champions.

However, the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup is about more than just winning. The annual tournament aims to connect communities and celebrate culture through cricket.

Suffan Hassan, a former Pakistani community representative who now works for Cricket NSW as a Cricket Manager in Western Sydney, understands the importance of creating opportunities for communities to come together.

“Australia’s cultural identity is transforming with Australian-born and migrated Pakistani youth emerging in large numbers on cricket fields across NSW,” said Hassan.

“I am proud to be associated with the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup, as a former player and now participating as a selector, and encourage inspiring athletes, cricket enthusiasts and all community members to take part in this wonderful tournament which is a celebration of our vibrant diversity.”

Trudi Busch, Director of Marketing, Sponsorship and Community at HomeWorld, spoke highly of the enthusiasm displayed at this year’s community trials.

“We love the pride and passion that is part of the HomeWorld Thunder Nation Cup every year,” she said.

“It is clear to see how much it means to all the players to have an opportunity to trial, and possibly go on to represent their culture and community.

“We are thrilled at the level of participation this year and look forward to watching each of the teams play in the upcoming tournament.”
