A letter from captain Callum Ferguson to Members of the Thunder Nation

As Sydney Thunder prepares to leave Canberra to continue our BBL tournament in other cities around the nation, I’d like to take this as an opportunity to thank each of our incredible Members for their wonderful support at the five matches we’ve played at Manuka Oval.

I often speak about the lift we Sydney Thunder players feel when we look at the outer ground and see a ‘sea of green’ – the army of fans who choose to wear our playing colours – and due to the numbers of you who attended our games against the Stars, Heat, Scorchers and Renegades I can honestly say we were never short on inspiration.

Playing in Canberra has been a wonderful experience for the entire Thunder squad. We’ve benefited from playing at a world class cricket stadium, and it’s also no secret that many cricketers rate Manuka Oval’s pitch as one of the best in the nation.

And it’s our hope that you, as Sydney Thunder Members,  believe it was the stage for some exciting cricket over the last 26 days; including Dan Sam’s memorable 65 from only 25 balls, Adam Milne’s blistering pace with the new ball, and the emergence of young guns Ollie Davies and Tanveer Sangha as players to watch.

I also trust, that like me, you left Manuka Oval at the end of each match feeling as though it was a great and worthwhile experience. We hope it our stay in Canberra has inspired many children to love cricket and to want to play the sport.

The team’s only disappointment during our stay was that we couldn’t mingle with our Members and supporters at the end of each match (as we normally do) because of the COVID-19 restrictions. Spending time with our Members and supporters is something we all enjoy because we gain plenty of energy from the time spent with them.

Once again, thank you for your support as Members of Sydney Thunder. It means as lot to all of us.

Cheers,

Callum Ferguson
