The Sydney Thunder is an Australian professional cricket team competing in the Big Bash League (BBL). Based at Sydney Showground Stadium, the Thunder, along with the Sydney Sixers, succeeded the New South Wales Blues from the defunct KFC Twenty20 Big Bash.

Ferguson, Hales recognised by match umpires as among best players of the tournament

Sydney Thunder stars Alex Hales and Callum Ferguson have both polled inside the top 10 in the KFC BBL|09 Player of the Tournament voting.

Player of the Tournament votes are awarded by the officiating umpires after each of the 56 home and away matches.

Hales polled 23 votes to rank third overall, just three votes behind winner Marcus Stoinis, while Ferguson earned tenth place with 16 votes.

Thunder’s English import is the second-leading run scorer in the competition with 568 runs at 40.57, including six half-centuries.

Captain Ferguson started led the way at the beginning of the season and currently has 369 runs to his name at an average of 30.75.
