Newly appointed WBBL Head Coach, Lisa Keightley will be amongst a host of Thunder stars on and off the field when the first edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) kicks off in Mumbai tonight.
What you need to know
The inaugural season of the WPL will see five teams (Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz) take part in a 22-game season, each team playing one another twice.
The first placed team at the conclusion of the regular season will advance directly into the Final, while the second and third placed teams will qualify for the Eliminator with the winner earning the remaining spot in the decider.
The competition kicks off with the Mumbai Indians taking on the Gujarat Giants in Mumbai on March 4, with the Final to be held on March 26.
Thunder stars in action
Sydney Thunder legend Rachael Haynes has been named coach of the Gujarat Giants; her first appointment since announcing her retirement following an illustrious playing last year. Thunder assistant Gavan Twining will join Haynes at the Giants, while newly appointed Thunder Head Coach Lisa Keightley has been named assistant coach of the Delhi Capitals.
Allrounder and Thunder international recruit Chloe Tryon will also be on show, lining up with the Mumbai Indians.
