Unique playing shirt designed by proud Yuin woman Rheanna Lotter

Sydney Thunder will honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture by wearing its Indigenous playing shirt in its next two KFC Big Bash League matches against the Perth Scorchers and the Sydney Sixers.

Designed by Rheanna Lotter, a Sydney-based Yuin woman, the playing shirt symbolises the connection, commitment and inclusivity of the Thunder Nation.

The large circle on the shirt represents the team and the smaller circles represent the supporters, staff, sponsors and wider community.

The large circle is connected to the smaller circles by unbreakable song lines. It is this strong connection between all parts of the Thunder Nation that enables the team to function and compete.

The design was also worn by Thunder’s WBBL team during the recent Rebel Women’s Big Bash League season.

In addition to wearing this unique strip, players will take part in a Barefoot Circle to connect to country and acknowledge the traditional owners of the land.

At Thunder’s match against the Sixers at Manuka Oval, local Ngnunnal Elder Aunty Violet Sheridan will perform an official Welcome to Country.

Indigenous playing shirts will not be available for purchase however signed, match-worn shirts will be auctioned following the two matches with all proceeds going to support OzHarvest’s mission to nourish the Thunder Nation.
