Teenager recognised for impressive performance against the Heat

Sydney Thunder’s Rachel Trenaman has earned this week’s Rebel Young Gun award nomination after a strong performance against the Brisbane Heat.

The 19-year-old from Wagga Wagga is relishing the opportunity to open the batting alongside star English recruit Tammy Beaumont. She top-scored for Thunder with 38 runs from 34 deliveries, including six fours.

A player will be nominated for the Rebel Young Gun award after each weekend, with an overall winner to be announced at the end of the season.

Thunder’s Hannah Darlington was named the Rebel Young Gun of WBBL|05 after a breakout season that saw her finish as the team’s leading wicket-taker.

Rebel is committed to supporting women in sport to show young women that sport is not just a hobby, but a viable career path.

A key pillar of rebel’s commitment to women in sport, is to support and develop young female athletes. As such, the winner of the rebel Young Gun Award will be invited to partake in the rebel Mentor Program.

By identifying emerging talent, Rebel aims to provide female athletes with key skills, knowledge and access to industry experts to develop and forge strong careers both on-field and beyond.

How is the overall winner selected?

The WBBL Female High-Performance Manager will monitor eligible athletes throughout the season based on the following criteria with the overall winner being announced at the end of the season:

– Participants must be under 21 at the start of the season

– Winner will be selected based on on-field performance and on-field and off-field attitude

– The winner will demonstrate skill, tenacity and good sportsmanship

What is the prize?

The overall winner will receive the following prize:

– $5,000 cash

– Access to the Rebel Mentor Program

– Become a member of the Rebel Women Program, made up of athletes selected from each of the sporting codes Rebel is proud to partner with including: W-League, WBBL, Suncorp Super Netball, AFLW and NRL Women’s Premiership
