New Thunder recruit set to feature in upcoming ‘home’ world cup

New Sydney Thunder recruit David Warner will have the honour of representing his country in a ‘home’ world cup after the National Selection Panel (NSP) named a 15-player squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

Warner, who inked a two-year deal with the Thunder last month, will be joined in the squad by fellow NSW players Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa and Steve Smith in the Australian unit that will be led in their title defence by Aaron Finch.

The side, minus Warner, will travel to India for three T20 Internationals in September before returning home to play the West Indies, England and India leading into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which opens against New Zealand at the SCG on October 22.

Warner will miss the Indian tour as part of a managed period of preparation for a full summer schedule – that includes a host of matches for the Thunder after the conclusion of the Pink Test in Sydney in early January. Cameron Green has been included in the squad for the Indian T20 Series.
