With New Zealand leading the series 2-0, the Indian cricket team is preparing for the third Test at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, determined to secure a victory. Though the series result is decided, a win in Mumbai is crucial for India’s World Test Championship final aspirations.

A significant change in the pitch conditions is anticipated as the teams meet for the final match of the series.

Spinners have dominated the first two matches, with turn available from Day 1. However, the Wankhede pitch is expected to favor batters more on Day 1, differing from earlier matches.

According to a report, a ‘sporting track’ with some grass has been prepared, with spin anticipated from the second day onward.

“It will be a sporting track. Right now, there’s a bit of grass on the pitch. It’s expected to be good for batting on Day 1 but should offer turn to spinners from Day 2,” the report quoted a source.

In December 2021, India last played New Zealand in a Test at Wankhede, winning by 372 runs. India posted scores of 325 and 276/7 declared, while New Zealand was bowled out for 62 and 167 on a spin-friendly surface.

Ravichandran Ashwin took 8 wickets for 42 runs in the match, while New Zealand’s Ajaz Patel made history with figures of 10/119 in the first innings and added 4 more wickets in the second innings for 104 runs.
