Winfield-Hill takes the reins for the first time as Billings targets successive titles

Oval Invincibles will have a new women’s captain for 2024, as Lauren Winfield-Hill takes charge of the two-time winners. Meanwhile, Sam Billings continues in the role for the fourth successive year.

Winfield-Hill takes over from Suzie Bates, who led Invincibles four times in 2022, including their triumphant Final, and for the final five matches of 2023. The New Zealander had, herself, taken the mantle from Dane van Niekerk in both years. Neither player has been re-signed.

No player to have played for Invincibles has scored as many runs as Winfield-Hill, who joined the team at The Kia Oval in 2022. The keeper-batter has a wealth of experience after making more than 100 international appearances for England. She captained Northern Superchargers in 2021.

Billings will be hoping to lead Invincibles to a first in the Men’s Competition: no team has yet won the trophy for a second time. His side are the defending champions.

He has been captaining short-form teams in domestic and overseas cricket for several years and has been capped at international level more than 60 times.
