U19 players recognized by Sri Lanka Cricket

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is the governing body for cricket in Sri Lanka. Originally registered as the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka on June 30, 1975, it was renamed Sri Lanka Cricket in 2003.

Sri Lanka Cricket rewarded and recognized 26 players of the U19 squad, currently undergoing training focusing on the upcoming Inbound Tours, U19 Asia Cup, and the U19 World Cup. 

The players were given financial assistance of LKR 100,000 each for the commitment shown for the game by the youngsters since identifying them through an Island-wide Talent Hunt Program conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket. 

‘’During our playing era, we did not have adequate cricketing facilities and playing opportunities to enhance our game. However, things have changed now, as Sri Lanka Cricket is working tirelessly to provide the best of facilities for the cricketers to prosper and progress to the next level,’’ said Mr. Ravin Wickramaratne, Vice President of Sri Lanka Cricket, whilst handing over the monetary recognition to the players. 

‘’You were selected to the U19 squad out of a talent hunt program Sri Lanka Cricket conducted across the island covering every district and province, and I urge you to use this opportunity and progress to the national level,’ Mr. Wickramaratne further added, when he addressed the players on the 28th September.

The 26 players, who were recognized, completed a 22 Day Residential Training Camp yesterday, (29th September) which was held at the SSC Colombo in a Bio-Bubble Environment. 

Mr. Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, Mr. Tilak Wattuhewa, President of Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association, Mr. Tim McCaskill, Head of National Cricket Development of Sri Lanka Cricket and Mr. Chinthaka Edirimanne, Head of Domestic Cricket of Sri Lanka Cricket, were present during the handing over of the assistance to the players.

The Junior National Selectors selected the 26 member squad out of the 75 players, selected via an Island-wide Talent Profiling Program conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket.
