  • USA Cricket Men’s Under 19 Squad announced to compete at the Regional World Cup Qualifier in Toronto in August
  • The team will represent Team USA in attempt to qualify for the ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka in early 2024

USA Cricket today is pleased to announce the 14-player squad to play in the Regional Americas ICC Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The event is the final step in the qualification pathway to the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup scheduled for February/March 2024 in Sri Lanka.

The U19 Cricket World Cup has been a breeding ground for many current and former international players at ICC Full Member and Associate Member levels. Those players almost always point to the vital part that the event played in their growth as players. Even more so, nearly all current Full Members have captains in at least one format that are products of their national Under 19 team. Qualifying for the 2024 event, the first time since 2010, would be a considerable boost to the continued growth of the game in the United States by providing a clear focus for the USA’s junior and youth cricketers.

The Men’s Under 19 Selection Panel had a challenging task at the recent U19 National Championship’s in Van Nuys, California to select the 14 players and three reserves. Performances at both the National Championships and the earlier Hub and Zonal competitions were considered, in addition to USA Cricket’s other performance criteria of attitude, fitness, and skills. As always, the Selection Panel will continue to monitor the performance of all players, even those who have missed out on selection, over the coming months in local and domestic tournaments.

USA Cricket has made plans for the team to travel to Toronto on August 2nd for a week’s build up to the main event. They will play a series of warm-up matches against arch-rivals Canada before their first official World Cup qualifier match on August 11th.

The tournament itself will feature teams from Argentina and Bermuda along with the USA and hosts Canada. Suriname withdrew from the tournament earlier this month meaning it is likely that the competition will be a double-round robin affair, with each team playing each other twice. With only one spot at the World Cup up for grabs every game will be vital!

Chairman of the Men’s U19 Selection Panel, Amer Afzaluddin, said, “”We are excited by this group of players, and thank the Board for Conducting a successful National Tournament,” “As more children are taking up the sport, I also want to acknowledge all junior cricket stakeholders around the nation, and how essential they have been, and will continue to be to this growth. We are confident that the team will perform well in the qualifiers, and we wish the team and its management the best of luck.”
