In an effort to further strengthen its domestic cricket structure, the USA Cricket has come out with an updated sanctioning document for Domestic Cricket. These regulations, effective from January 1, 2023, can now be viewed here on the USA Cricket website

Regulations for the Approval of Domestic Cricket

USA Cricket is responsible for sanctioning and monitoring cricket matches and events played within the USA, known as ‘Domestic Cricket’, per ICC’s regulatory requirements, and subject to certain exceptions. Consequently, USA Cricket is responsible to determine whether or not such Domestic Cricket should be approved or not, and if so, whether any specific conditions should apply.

The updated USA Cricket Regulations for the Approval of Domestic Cricket adopt the guidelines set out in the ICC regulations, which apply equally to Men’s, Women’s and Youth Cricket. This aims to establish a mechanism by which Domestic Cricket played in the USA is to be officially approved by USA Cricket and this ensures a uniform application of rules protecting the sport and all its participants.

The Regulations provide a structure which defines two categories of approval – ‘deemed’ approval and ‘formal’ approval. Certain forms of domestic cricket organized by the members of USA Cricket and which meet certain criteria can be ‘deemed’ to be approved as Senior, Junior or Modified Cricket under the Regulations. The other proposed domestic cricket that meets any one of the specific criteria requires a formal approval process that must be followed, starting with the submission of an application from which can be found here.

USA Cricket will endeavor to publish on its website all ‘approved’ Domestic Cricket, pursuant to these regulations. Also commensurate with ICC’s ordinance, USA domestic cricket participants will be subject to potential sanctions in case they participate in ‘disapproved’ cricket under the Regulations.

USA Cricket will impose standard and additional ‘sanctioning’ fees to approved Domestic Cricket events.

Further to sanctioning, USA Cricket will assign a Tournament observer to the event to guide the event organizer with USA Cricket guidelines. Organizers are required to provide access to the officials, material, and facilities as needed.
