  • Kyle Phillip returns to Team USA colors as Ian Holland is unavailable due to county cricket commitments
  • In the only other change to the Scotland touring party, Rahul Jariwala comes in for Sushant Modani who is unavailable due to visa issues
  • USA will play four One Day Internationals in Port Moresby vs hosts Papua New Guinea and Namibia in CWC League 2

The USA Cricket National Selection Panel has named a 14-man squad to represent the United States of America in the penultimate ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series of the tournament for Team USA. USA will take on hosts Papua New Guinea and Namibia in the upcoming tri-series that will be played from September 11 to September 21.

The squad has two changes from the successful recent tour of Scotland that saw USA move into one of the three automatic qualification places. The Hampshire all-rounder, Ian Holland is unavailable due to county cricket commitments with the conclusion of the county championship, he is replaced by fast bowler, Kyle Phillip who has played two One Day Internationals for USA picking up three wickets and will add to the bowling attack in the absence of Holland. The leading run scorer at the Men’s National Championships 2021, the 18 year old Rahul Jariwala, also returns to the squad after missing the tour of Scotland as he replaces Sushant Modani who is unable to make the trip to Papua New Guinea due to visa issues.

Team USA will undertake a four-day preparation camp for the tour in Morrisville, North Carolina at the fantastic facilities at Church Street Park. The team will then fly to Port Moresby on September 5th, arriving two days later on the 7th, in advance of the first One Day International of the tour vs the hosts on Sunday, September 11th. USA will play in the first four matches in the series with their final match vs Namibia on Saturday, September 17th before departing for home the following day.

Chair of the Men’s National Selection Panel, Michael Voss, said, “The selection panel was pleased with a strong performance in Scotland picking up five points from a potential eight and keeping us very much in contention for one of the three qualification places to next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup League Qualifier. Kyle Phillip comes into the squad for Ian Holland who is unavailable as the only change from the previous squad, he will offer us an additional pace bowling option with the extra pace a great asset for the team on the hard wickets we expect in Port Moresby.”

Richard Done, USA Cricket Operations Director, added, “After the tour of Scotland as we move into 3rd place in the table, we are in control of our own destiny for the remaining 8 matches in League 2 and our goal of obtaining a top-three finish in the league and automatic qualification to the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier next year. Kyle Phillip will bring extra firepower to our attack as we look to take as many points as possible in Port Moresby with the squad gathering for a preparatory camp in North Carolina before departing to PNG. We’d like to thank everyone involved in Church Street Park in Morrisville, North Carolina for their support and assistance in helping our squad come together to use their superb facilities for the four day training camp starting later in the week.”
