  • Ian Holland back for Team USA having been unavailable due to county cricket commitments for the home series in Texas and recent tour of Africa
  • Ali Khan out of contention due to injury while a fit Jaskaran Malhotra replaces Rahul Jariwala with Jasdeep Singh coming in for Rusty Theron who was unable to travel to Scotland for this tour.

The USA Cricket National Selection Panel has named a 14-man squad to represent the United States of America in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series in Scotland between USA, United Arab Emirates and hosts Scotland that will be played in Aberdeen from August 10th to August 17th.

Team USA Captain, Monank Patel is also back to full fitness having missed the final T20I in Bulawayo with some back problems and leads the 14 player squad. The squad has three changes from the final squad for the previous CWCL2 series that concluded in Texas last month with Ali Khan missing out through injury and being replaced by the returning Hampshire all-rounder, Ian Holland. Jaskaran Malhotra who was unavailable due to a hand injury for the matches in Texas returns to the ODI squad in place of Rahul Jariwala. Jasdeep Singh also returns to the Squad coming in for Rusty Theron who was unable to travel to Scotland for this tour due to visa issues.

Team USA have already arrived in Scotland will play two warm-up matches vs a Scotland ‘A’ side ahead of the official ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 series, which will see Team USA play two One Day Internationals apiece against Scotland and the United Arab Emirates. USA Cricket would like to sincerely thank Cricket Scotland for their assistance and support in arranging these matches and we are looking forward to our first tour of Scotland. The first of the two warm-up matches is today with live coverage being provided on the USA Cricket match center.

Chair of the Men’s National Selection Panel, Michael Voss, said, “The selection panel has gone with a similar squad to the one that performed well on home soil for the previous ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI series. There is no doubt that Ali Khan’s enforced absence is a big blow for us. We wish him well with his ongoing recovery and look forward to him being able to get back into USA colors. However the return of Ian Holland who is available for the first time for the USA since the Americas T20 Qualifier in Antigua last November is a huge boost for us. Jessy Singh is a great replacement to have to come into the squad and will provide good penetration in our seam bowling attack that we hope will enjoy the Scottish conditions. Every match remaining in CWC League 2 is incredibly important and we have a strong squad named to go to Aberdeen that we believe can pick up critical wins vs Scotland and the UAE.”

Richard Done, USA Cricket Operations Director, added, “With just 12 One Day Internationals now left for us in Cricket World Cup League 2 and all of these matches being away from home, the matches just couldn’t be any more important. We showed in Texas how good we can be in phases and while we certainly would have liked more points from those games on home soil, we still control our own fate and our goal has to be a top-three finish in the league and automatic qualification to the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier next year. We’d also just like to express our sincere appreciation to all of the Cricket Scotland staff who’ve been of marvelous help in assisting our two warm-up matches and we look forward to the challenge of a strong Scotland ‘A’ team ahead of the four official ODIs.”
