Premier Cricket games across the Perth metropolitan area will be played as part of the new Think Mental Health Round this weekend
The Round will consist of 58 matches, reaching over 700 players in Senior and Junior categories.
Think Mental Health Round is supported by Healthway as part of WA Cricket’s major partnership with the Think Mental Health program.
The Think Mental Health program aims to build mental health and wellbeing and reduce mental health issues. Its current campaign, ‘Find your way to Okay’, promotes mental wellbeing among young adults aged 18 to 24 years by encouraging them to discover new ways to increase and maintain mental wellbeing.
As part of this initiative, the Premier Cricket Think Mental Health Round aims to highlight what can be done to improve mental health and wellbeing and how individuals can provide support to others.
WA Cricket CEO Christina Matthews says the Think Mental Health Round is an important step forward in reducing stigma around mental health discussions.
“It is so important to shine a light on positive mental health and wellbeing, and this new Think Mental Health Round will help us get that message into the community through our Premier Cricket clubs,” Matthews said.
“WA Cricket is committed to continuing our journey of education and we hope this Round will encourage others to engage in their own positive mental health practices.
“We are launching the Round through the Premier Cricket competition and look forward to expanding it into our community competitions throughout the coming years.”
Lotterywest and Healthway Acting CEO Jeremy Hubble said that Healthway was proud to support WA Cricket and its commitment to the mental health and wellbeing of its players and club members.
“Sport, like cricket, provide an opportunity to enhance social connections and start conversations about mental health and wellbeing. It’s this social aspect and sense of community that enables people to be receptive to the Think Mental Health message,” he said.
“Healthway will continue to work with the WA Cricket to strengthen connection to local service networks and identify opportunities to educate and build mental health support within the cricketing community.”
