Three stars from the Washington Freedom Major League Cricket team US recently made an appearance at a local Verizon store in Cary, North Carolina before the team’s match against the Los Angeles Knight Riders.
Rachin Ravindra, Lockie Ferguson and Obus Pienaar delighted local fans by answering questions and even sharing cricketing advice.
Verizon is a sponsor of the team.
The players shared their excitement with cricexec about playing in the US.
According to Ravindra, fan enthusiasm has exceeded his expectations: “It’s amazing. It’s my first time being in the US and being able to experience the fans and the fanfare of the US people, which to my surprise was more than I thought it was going to be.”
Ferguson, Ravindra’s fellow Kiwi who is back for his second MLC tournament, concurred: “It’s unbelievable. I played last year with the LA team, really enjoyed my time here. Once again, I’ve come back with a different team but the franchise has been great, we’ve been playing some good cricket, but the best part is just the fans.”
The event also gave the Washington Freedom and their players a chance to connect with the local community. Lucky fans got to meet and chat with the players, and even get advice on their cricket skills.
Dhiraj Malhotra, CEO of the Washington Freedom weighed in on the event and how it came together: “Verizon has been one of our great sponsors and partners. Their vision is the same as ours — to reach out to the community. They’ve been talking to us to get the players down to one of their stores and you’ve seen the crowd you see how enthusiastic it was… a lot of happy children, a lot of happy faces… it worked out really well.”
