Jay Shah is expected to become the next ICC Chairman, with 15 out of 16 members backing him. The deadline for filing his nomination is August 27, and the new chairman will start on December 1.

If Shah joins the ICC, he will face a mandatory three-year cooling-off period before rejoining the BCCI after his term ends in October 2025.

The BCCI will need to find a replacement for Shah as secretary. Potential candidates include:

– Rajiv Shukla: Current vice-president and Congress MP; he might be promoted for a year.

– Ashish Shelar: Maharashtra BJP leader and BCCI treasurer; though busy, his influence makes him a candidate.

– Arun Dhumal: IPL Chairman with relevant experience; a swap with Shukla is possible but not certain.

– Devajit Saikia: Joint secretary, a crucial figure in BCCI, could be elevated.

Other potential candidates include Rohan Jaitley, Avishek Dalmiya, Dilsher Khanna, Vipul Phadke, and Prabhtej Bhatia, though the BCCI’s power dynamics often favor established insiders.

Shah’s move will trigger changes, but his future plans remain uncertain.

A former BCCI secretary stated, “There are no hard and fast rules, but typically, president, secretary, and treasurer are the key posts. Someone new can come in, but it’s unlikely. First, we need to know if Jay is ready to join the ICC. He can go anytime, even if not now.”
