Bio
Akash Ambani is the Chairman of Reliance Jio, an Indian telecommunications company and a subsidiary of the Jio Platforms. He was named the Chairman in June 2022 after his father and the 2nd richest man in Asia, Mukesh Ambani, decided to resign from the board.
Akash Ambani is also the co-owner of the Indian Premier League Franchise Mumbai Indians. He, along with his mother Nita, has been extremely active in shaping the team and has spent considerable time in planning MI’s auction strategy.
Ambani has made notable contributions to the digital services of Reliance Jio, getting involved with the creation of the digital ecosystem around Jio’s 4G proposition. He worked with a team of engineers to invent the revolutionary J10 phone in 2017, making 4G affordable for many Indian households.
Ambani along with his sister Isha actively participate in the group’s new ventures, such as J10 and Jio Fiber.
Ambani also played a crucial role in helping grow the consumer retail business of Reliance Group. As part of the Board of Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd, he handled the offline and online ventures that sell consumer electronics, food and grocery, fashion, jewelry, footwear and clothing.
Ambani was instrumental in launching the Jr. NBA program through the multi-year partnership between Reliance Foundation and the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 2013 to start the most comprehensive school–based basketball program ever in India. The program aims at engaging one million youth in basketball and training 2,000 coaching and physical education instructors.
Akash Ambani graduated from Brown University in the United States with a major in Economics in 2013.
