Bio
Avril Fahey is a retired Australian Women’s International Cricket player and current senior administrator. She played for Australia’s National Women’s team from March 1995 to July 2001, featuring in six Tests and 42 ODIs. She was part of the 1997 World Cup Victory in India. Additionally, she captained the Western Fury in 45 matches and was the first woman to play 150 matches for Western Australia, having made her debut for them in 1992-93. Fahey retired from Cricket in 2012.
Fahey is currently the Chair of the Western Australia Cricket Association Board, a position she was unanimously supported and uncontested for by the WACA Board at a Board Meeting held on December 6, 2022, making her the first woman to serve in this position at the organization and on any Australian Cricket Board. She had been serving as interim Chair since September 2022. Fahey joined the WACA Board in September 2014 as a Statewide Game Development Committee Representative and has been present on the Board since then as a Cricket Appointed Director.
In addition to her role at the WACA, Fahey sits on the Australia Women’s National Selection Panel, a role she has held since June 2012 after retiring from all forms of Cricket.
Fahey is an experienced leader in the hospital and health care industry. Since October 2022, she has also been serving the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care and Health Engagement. Fahey has held senior roles at Silver Chain and St John of God Midland Public & Private Hospital, dedicating the majority of her career to working with older and vulnerable client populations, having initially started her career as an Occupational Therapist.
Fahey was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2003, and she and her team-mate Angele Gray are riding across Australia to raise money for diabetes work. She joined the Diabetes WA Board in 2021 as a Non-Executive Director. Additionally, she is an Advisory Board Member of the School of Business and Law at Edith Cowan University, joining in May 2020.
Fahey has been volunteering as Deputy Chair for the Western Australian Female Cricket Council since January 2014.
Fahey holds a Master’s degree in Human Movement from the University of Western Australia and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Sport Science, as well as an MBA with Distinction from the University of Western Australia. She also completed a Company Directors Course from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
