Bio

Clare Connor is a former England Women International Cricket Player and high-profile cricket administrator, holding key roles at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), and the ICC. 

Connor represented the England Women’s cricket team in 111 matches across the three formats. She was the captain of the England Women’s team and finished her six-year stint as England captain by winning the Ashes, England’s first Ashes win in 42 years.

Connor is currently the Deputy CEO of England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Managing Director of England Women’s Cricket, a new expanded role she was appointed to on March 17, 2023.

Connor has been with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for over 15 years. Prior to being appointed as an Interim CEO, she served the ECB as a managing director of England Women’s Cricket from January 2018 to July 2022 and as a Director of England Women’s Cricket for 11 years from January 2007 to December 2017. During her time with the ECB, professional contracts were introduced for England Women in 2014 and pro-contracts were also introduced for domestic female players in 2020

Connor has also been serving as the Chairperson of ICC Women’s Committee and the Member of ICC Chief Execs Committee since October 2012.

Connor served Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) as the president, becoming the first woman to be appointed as the president of MCC in its 233 years history. She took charge of the office on 1 October 2021 and relinquished the role a year later. She still serves the MCC Foundation as a Trustee, where she is transforming the lives through cricket.

Connor was awarded a CBE in the 2018 New Year’s Honors for her part in England’s World Cup win in 2017 and her contribution to the wider development of the women’s game. Previously, she was awarded the MBE in the 2004 Queen’s Birthday Honors list before being awarded the OBE in the 2006 Queen’s New Year’s Honors list for her services to cricket as captain of the English Women’s team.

Before moving into sports administration, Connor taught English at Brighton College and was the head of the school’s PR and marketing operations. She was the Co-Presenter of “The Cricket Show“ at channel 4/Sunset & Vine, and she also commentated for BBC Test Match Special. She wrote a column in The Observer and sat as a pundit on Sky Sports coverage of International Cricket.

Connor was a Member of the Sports Minister “Women in Sport Advisory Board” and in 2006, she became the first woman to play for the all-star charity side, Lashing World XI.

Connor studied English at the University of Manchester and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1998.
