Bio

Martin Snedden is a former New Zealand International Cricketer and long-time cricket executive.

Snedden featured in 25 Tests and 93 ODIs from 1980 to 1990.

Snedden is currently serving New Zealand Cricket as Chairman. He replaced Greg Barclay in Dec 2020. Snedden is also NZC’S representative on the board of the ICC, a task with which he is very familiar having performed the same role in 2013 and 2014 during Stuart Heal’s tenure.

Snedden was New Zealand Cricket’s Chief Executive Officer from July 2001 to May 2007, during which he established himself as a popular administrator. He was also a member of the ICC Chief Executives Committee during the same time period.

Snedden has also served as a board member of New Zealand Cricket since 2013, where he is part of the NZC Board’s Women in Governance project sub-committee and member of the Board’s High-Performance Advisory Group. He was previously on the NZC board from 1990 to 1992 and 1999 to 2001.

Snedden has extensive executive-level experience, having served as the CEO of Tourism Industry Association NZ, Duco Events, and Rugby New Zealand 2011, which organized the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Snedden has held other senior positions, including as a director of the World Masters Games 2017 and as a Consultant Lead of New Zealand’s One Cricket Project, an initiative aimed at reviewing and improving the delivery of cricket in New Zealand.

Snedden is also a director of Women in Sport Aotearoa and a Trustee / Director of The Cricketers’ Hardship Trust, a charitable trust established by current professional players and the New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association with a view to assisting past cricketers who have fallen on hard times. He is also the chair of Auckland’s Destination AKL 2025 Industry Leaders’ Group, making sure Auckland is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.

A lawyer by practice, Snedden graduated from the University of Otago with a law degree and worked for 11 years at his family firm, Snedden & Associates.
