Bio
Shane Watson is a legendary former Australian International Cricketer, and currently holds the roles of executive, entrepreneur, and coach. He made his debut in 2002 as an all-rounder and featured in over 300 matches across the three formats for Australian Men’s Cricket Team, retiring from International Cricket in 2016.
Watson won two ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups (2007, 2011) and two ICC Champions Trophy Titles (2006 and 2009), winning the player of the match in both Champions Trophy finals – against West Indies and New Zealand respectively.
Watson captained the Australian Test team in 2013, becoming their 44th Test Captain.
After retiring from international cricket, Watson continued to play in T20 Leagues all over the world, featuring in 343 T20 games before finally hanging up his boots in 2020.
Watson represented a number of franchises in his T20 career, winning titles with most teams. He won the first edition of the IPL in 2008 with Rajasthan Royals (RR), earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the process. He was also the MVP in 2013 with RR. He won his 2nd IPL Title with Chennai Super Kings in 2018, scoring a century in the final and being awarded the player of the match,
Watson also played part in Islamabad United’s PSL win in the inaugural edition in 2016, playing 6 matches before his injury. He was a prominent figure in Quetta Gladiators title win in 2019, winning the most valuable player award by finishing as the top run-scorer with 430 runs in 12 innings.
Watson is currently the President of Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA), a role he has held since 2019. ACA is the collective and representative voice of past and present domestic and International Cricketers in Australia.
Watson is also the founder of T20 stars, a T20 Cricket online content platform designed to educate cricket lovers around T20 format and cricket in general. He established the T20 Stars in April 2020.
Watson is the Co-founder and the Chief Executive Officer of BEON Performance, a role he has been performing since September 2017. BEON Performing helps in creating the next generation of Sporting Stars through provision of secrets to unlock the best version of themselves.
Watson is also presently the assistant coach of Delhi Capitals, an IPL franchise. He was appointed in March 2022.
Watson won the Allan Border Medal back to back in Jan 2010 and Jan 2011. The Allan Border Medal recognizes the most outstanding Australian Cricketer of the past season as voted by his peers, the media and umpires.
Watson did his schooling from Ipswich Grammar School.
