Cricket Australia has decided not to schedule this season’s Big Bash League (BBL) final on Australia Day.

Initially, January 26 was considered for the BBL 14 final, but it has now been moved to January 27 to avoid conflicting with the Australian Open men’s tennis final.

A Cricket Australia spokesperson noted that the January 27 date will allow “as many fans as possible” to enjoy “one of Australian sport’s great occasions.”

The spokesperson also emphasized that scheduling decisions prioritize fans’ interests. This choice has the support of broadcasters Channel 7 and Fox Sports.

In addition, Cricket Australia has rescheduled a women’s match between Australia and England from January 26 to January 25.

Meanwhile, the Australian men’s team will be in Sri Lanka for a two-Test series. This decision follows criticism from last season when the final Test against West Indies coincided with Australia Day.
