Yusuf Pathan, renowned for his explosive batting, voiced his opinion on Friday regarding the ongoing standoff over the 2025 Champions Trophy, slated to be held in Pakistan.
The former all-rounder and current Member of Parliament backed the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) decision not to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the event.
The BCCI remains firm in its stance, citing security concerns for the tournament scheduled for early 2025.
Pathan praised the Indian cricket board for prioritizing player safety and national interests, stating, “The BCCI always thinks about the players and their safety. So whatever BCCI does is in the interest of the players and the nation,” in an interview with ANI.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has softened its position on hosting the entire tournament within Pakistan.
Recent discussions between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and PCB have resulted in a tentative agreement on a hybrid model for international tournaments hosted by Pakistan or India through 2027.
Under this arrangement, both nations could participate in ICC tournaments hosted by the other country, with their respective matches being played at neutral venues.
